Complete Japanese sharpening kit, lent as a set: • Shapton Kuromaku K0702 "Orange Medium" (commonly #1000) — sets and sharpens the edge • Shapton Kuromaku K0704 "Enji Fine" (commonly #5000) — refines • Shapton Kuromaku K0710 "Melon Fine" (commonly #8000) — final polish • Suihei-kun PA#100 flattening stone — trues the stones back to flat, never touches a blade The Shaptons are splash-and-go: a spritz of water, no soaking needed. Each stores in its own snap-shut case that doubles as a stand. The PA#100 does need a soak before use, and plenty of water while lapping. The flattening stone is included because whetstones dish out in the middle with use, and a dished stone makes a consistent angle impossible. Pencil-grid trick: scribble a crosshatch on the stone's face, take a few passes on the flattener, and any pencil left behind marks a low spot not yet reached. All made in Japan.
