My life would be simpler if I stuck to things like cordless drills and hot glue guns, but I tend to be drawn to more complex hobbies that don't use tools/materials from Home Depot or Michael's. So I buy/make a lot of unitaskers. Maybe you need just that thing and I'll feel more justified in having spent the money/time on it!

Flux Core Welder
Titanium Easy Flux 125 from Harbor Freight. Light-duty welder for thin steel plate, welds are dirtier than MIG or TIG but doesn't require shielding gas and can be used outdoors on a windy day.

Digital Oscilloscope
Cheapie Rigol scope from Amazon. Comes with power cable, two probes, instructions, etc. Haven't used it in a few years so I'm a little rusty with driving it, but works well.
