# Add ToolPool.Garden to Slack

One person adds it to the workspace. Everybody who wants to search runs /garden login once.

One person adds the app to the workspace, once. Adding it connects nobody, so everybody who wants to search connects their own account.

1. Sign into ToolPool.Garden in this browser. A later step opens a page on this site, and you have to be signed in to use it. [Log in](https://toolpool.garden/users/log_in)
2. Add the app to your workspace. You need permission to install apps there, and some workspaces send the request to an admin to approve first. [Add to Slack](https://toolpool.garden/integrations/slack/install)
3. Open Slack and type /garden login in any channel, or in a direct message to ToolPool.Garden. Only you can see the reply, so the link does not appear in the channel.
4. Click the link and press Connect. The link works one time, and it expires after fifteen minutes. Run /garden login again if you come back to it later.
5. Back in Slack, try it: /garden search cordless drill.

## Notes

Everyone else in the workspace connects their own account the same way. Each person searches their own pools, so two people can get different answers to the same search.

A search goes to the channel, so the group can see what came up. Every other command replies to you alone, including the login link and your pool selection. A channel reply carries a Remove this button, and only the person who ran the search can press it.

Every command has two spellings. The picker lists them one per line, as /garden-search, /garden-login and so on. You can also type /garden and then the word, so /garden-search drill and /garden search drill run the same search.

To keep a search to yourself, run it in a direct message to ToolPool.Garden instead of in a channel. The commands are the same, and the reply stays in that conversation.

You search all of your pools at once. Run /garden pools to see them numbered, and /garden pools off 2 to leave one out of your searches from this workspace. /garden help lists the other commands.

New public requests are posted in the group channel where you connected. To choose a different channel, run /garden requests on in that channel. Run /garden requests off to stop the posts.

A search result does not show who owns the listing. The site shows who posted a request, but a chat reply does not.

To disconnect, run /garden logout, or use Disconnect under Chat apps in User Settings. Both stop the connection straight away, and your account and pools stay as they are.

A connected chat app can search and choose which of your pools it searches. It can't post a listing or read your chats.
